Do I need prior experience to apply?

Accepted Answer

No. Our programs are designed to take motivated individuals from the ground up. What matters most is commitment and a genuine interest in the trade. Career changers and newcomers are equally welcome.

Question 2

Will I be paid during training?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Apprentices are employed by their training site and receive wages throughout the entire program. You earn a paycheck from your first day — there is no unpaid training period.

Question 3

How long does an apprenticeship take?

Accepted Answer

The Culinary Arts pathway requires 2,000 hours of on-the-job training plus 144 hours of related technical instruction, typically completed over 12–18 months. Program length for pathways currently in development will be confirmed upon DOL registration.

Question 4

What credential do I receive when I finish?

Accepted Answer

Completers receive a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion — a nationally recognized, portable credential that carries weight with employers across the country, not just in Alaska.

Which pathways are currently open for enrollment?

Accepted Answer

The Culinary Arts pathway (RAPIDS Code 0238HY) is the only fully DOL-registered pathway currently open and enrolling. Three pathways — Protective Services Specialist, Community Engagement Specialist, and Media & Communications Specialist — are in active development and not yet accepting apprentices, but you can register your interest. Eleven pathways are in future build phases. Four pathways (FinTech/Blockchain, DAO/Digital Assets, Investment Operations, and Credit Services) are under legal review and are not available in any form.

Can I apply if I already work in the field?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you are currently employed in a relevant role, SkyBridge may be able to work with your employer to enroll you and formalize your existing training through the registered apprenticeship program.

Question 7

I have a criminal record. Can I still apply?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SkyBridge actively welcomes applications from individuals with criminal records, those in reentry, and others who have faced barriers to traditional employment. Background screening requirements vary by training site and will be discussed during the application process.

Question 8

Is there any cost to participate as an apprentice?

Accepted Answer

No. There is no cost to apply or participate in a SkyBridge apprenticeship. You are an employee of your training site — you earn wages, not tuition bills.

What is the difference between an "in development" and a "future phase" pathway?

Accepted Answer

An "in development" pathway (Protective Services, Community Engagement, Media & Communications) has active curriculum work and employer relationship building underway — it is on a defined path to DOL registration. A "future phase" pathway is planned for a later build cycle but has not yet entered active development. Neither is currently accepting apprentices.

What does it mean to be a "registered training site"?

A registered training site is an employer that has been approved by SkyBridge to host apprentices under our DOL-registered program. You provide the on-the-job training environment; SkyBridge provides the program structure, compliance oversight, and related technical instruction coordination.

What are the requirements to become a training site?

Accepted Answer

Training sites must operate in a relevant industry, have a qualified journey-level worker or supervisor to mentor apprentices, maintain a safe and legal work environment, and commit to the wage progression and training standards of the program. SkyBridge will walk you through the full requirements during onboarding. Currently, training sites are being onboarded for the Culinary Arts pathway.

Is there a cost to become a training site?

Accepted Answer

There is no fee to become a SkyBridge registered training site. You do pay your apprentice's wages — but apprentices are productive employees from day one, and wage progression is structured to reflect growing skill levels.

Question 13

Can my business access grant funding to offset apprenticeship costs?

Accepted Answer

Potentially. Various federal and state workforce funding streams may be available to offset training costs. SkyBridge can help you identify and navigate relevant funding opportunities. However, funding availability is not guaranteed and varies by program, employer size, and timing.

Question 14

How many apprentices can I host at once?

Accepted Answer

That depends on your business size, capacity, and the ratio requirements of the program. SkyBridge will work with you to determine an appropriate apprentice-to-journey-worker ratio during onboarding.

What is SkyBridge's role once I become a training site?

Accepted Answer

SkyBridge remains actively involved throughout the program. We handle DOL compliance and reporting, coordinate related technical instruction, support you and your apprentice through any challenges, and serve as the primary point of contact for program administration. You focus on the training; we handle the paperwork.

Do I have to hire the apprentice permanently after the program?

There is no legal obligation to retain an apprentice after program completion. However, most employers find that a trained, credentialed apprentice is a valuable long-term hire.

Is there a cost to partner with SkyBridge?

Accepted Answer

No. Partnership with SkyBridge is free for qualifying organizations. We are a workforce development sponsor — our goal is to build pathways, not charge for access to them.

How does the referral process work?

Accepted Answer

Partner organizations refer interested candidates to SkyBridge using a shared intake process. We follow up directly with candidates, assess fit, and coordinate placement with a registered training site. You stay informed throughout the process.

What is the due diligence marketing policy?

Accepted Answer

SkyBridge requires all partners to represent our programs accurately. Partners may not overstate pathway status, guarantee outcomes, or promote restricted pathways (FinTech/Blockchain, DAO/Digital Assets, Investment Operations, Credit Services) as available. All co-branded or co-marketed materials must be reviewed and approved by SkyBridge before publication. This policy protects candidates and the integrity of our DOL registration.

Question 20

Which pathways can we refer candidates to right now?

Partners may actively refer candidates to the Culinary Arts pathway (DOL-registered, now enrolling). Partners may inform candidates about the Protective Services, Community Engagement, and Media & Communications pathways as in-development programs where interest can be registered. Partners must not refer candidates to the four restricted pathways or represent future-phase pathways as currently available.

Can my organization co-promote the program?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with approval. We welcome co-promotion and can provide materials, talking points, and program information for your outreach. All co-branded materials must be reviewed and approved by SkyBridge before publication — this is a condition of partnership under our due diligence marketing policy.

Do you work with organizations outside Anchorage?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SkyBridge is a national apprenticeship sponsor headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. We welcome partnerships with organizations across Alaska and nationally. Our current active training sites are in the Anchorage area, and we are actively expanding our geographic footprint as additional pathways come online.

What populations does SkyBridge prioritize?

We actively welcome candidates with barriers to employment — including individuals with criminal records, veterans, those in recovery, and others who have been underserved by traditional workforce systems. Apprenticeship is designed to work for people who need a real chance.

Question 24

What is a registered apprenticeship?

Accepted Answer

A registered apprenticeship is a formal, employer-driven training program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. It combines on-the-job training (OJT) with related technical instruction (RTI) and results in a nationally portable DOL Certificate of Completion. Unlike informal training, registered apprenticeships meet federal standards for structure, wages, and worker protection.

What is SkyBridge's role in the apprenticeship system?

SkyBridge is a DOL Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor — meaning we are legally responsible for the quality and compliance of our programs. We develop curriculum, register and support employer training sites, recruit and place apprentices, and handle all DOL reporting and compliance. We are the intermediary that makes the system work.

When did SkyBridge receive its DOL sponsor registration?

SkyBridge received official recognition as a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor in June 2026 — the result of several years of development, curriculum building, and employer relationship work. Registration No. 9059351-2026-142095.

How many pathways does SkyBridge have?

SkyBridge has 19 apprenticeship pathways in its national network plan. One pathway (Culinary Arts) is fully DOL-registered and actively enrolling. Three pathways (Protective Services, Community Engagement, Media & Communications) are in active development. Eleven pathways are planned for future build phases. Is the Protective Services pathway DOL-registered?

Not yet. The Protective Services Specialist pathway is currently in development and has not yet received DOL registration. It is not accepting apprentices at this time. Only the Culinary Arts pathway is currently a fully registered, active program.

What are the restricted pathways and why are they restricted?

Four pathways — FinTech/Blockchain, DAO/Digital Assets, Investment Operations, and Credit Services — are under active legal and regulatory review. These pathways involve financial services and digital asset activities that require careful legal analysis before they can be structured as DOL-registered apprenticeship programs. They are not available for enrollment, referral, or promotion in any form until that review is complete.

Where does SkyBridge operate?

SkyBridge is a national apprenticeship sponsor headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska at 3300 Arctic Blvd Suite 201. Our current active training sites are in the Anchorage area, and we are building a 19-pathway national advanced training network designed to scale across industries and geographies. As additional pathways come online, our geographic reach expands with them.

How is SkyBridge funded?

SkyBridge operates as a nonprofit workforce development sponsor. Program operations are supported through a combination of organizational resources and, where applicable, federal and state workforce development funding. We do not charge apprentices or partner organizations to participate. As a national sponsor, we pursue funding opportunities at both the federal level and within the states where we operate.
